Fiji Coconut Millers is expected to make an announcement over its development plans, as soon as the National Budget is passed.

A special package for copra farmers will be part of the anticipated announcement, Sun- Biz was told yesterday.

This amid revitalisation efforts within the copra sector where price per tonne increased from $1000 to $1350.

“This is good news, because when world market prices go down, the farmers will continue to collect $1350 per tonne,” Mr Sharma said.

The sector has over 200 copra farmers, most of whom are in maritime zones.

Individuals harvest half a tonne to as much as a tonne a week, to qualify for the $1350, Mr Sharma said.

A capital grant of $420,750 would cater for rehabilitation of farms, he said.
