Nadi’s sunset strip
Nadi’s sunset strip is being considered for a billion-dollar tourism development.
Backed by Chinese investors, it is an “outstanding” vision from Tourism Fiji’s perspective, said chief executive officer Brent Hill.
The Nadi Town Resort would be ideal for Wailoaloa, given its proximity to the airport, and access to the waterfront for outer island experience
He said the SGV Pacific Properties Group is to be commended.
“It makes sense to put the project where other developments have helped shape the landscape,” Mr Hill said.
“That’s the great thing about this project .
“I’m not an architect, I’m not a town planner, but it makes total sense to put this in an area where there already is a lot of infrastructure.
“We would much rather have projects in areas that are already built up.
“That way, it preserves Fiji’s image and sustainability.
“From that perspective. I want to congratulate the team.”
The project will be developed in phases to hold more than 900 rooms over an area of 49 acres.
Mr Hill said the development was much needed given the escalating demand for housing and accommodation in Nadi, in the face of the rising cost of living.
“I know this because I pay some outrageous rent,” he said.
“I’m sure you guys do as well in N adi for those who are renting.
“We need more residential accommodation as well so that more people can afford to live.
“In that sense, it’s great and then the other thing that it has is the shopping, which we lack.
“Of course, Chinese tourists when they come in, that’s what they’re looking for.
“This project is a really important one.”
“The interest in Fiji is huge from China and growing and we still have our other markets like Australia and New Zealand as well.”
