Tiko Kece Taxis & Hire is calling on drivers to come forward and join them.

This was after the demand from the public had prompted Tiko Kece Taxis to set up another three-taxi bases in Nasinu.

The three new taxi bases are located at Nadera, Khalsa Road and Pilling Road, making the number of their taxi bases to six.

The other three bases are located at Delailagi (Nasese), Delainacagi (RB Patel Harbour Point) and Delainabua.

Tiko Kece Director Loma Baleilevuka said they wanted to continue improving their service for their customers.

“Now we have 47 companies that are under contract with us. We currently have 180 taxis and with the three new bases that opened we are hoping to have more than 200 taxis,” Mr Baleilevuka said.

“We are not being racist when we want only i’Taukei drivers for Tiko Kece. A lot of people used to ask us why not hire Fijian drivers of different descent and we always told them that Tiko Kece is one way to show i’Taukei that we can also run business like any Fijian.

“We want to boost the confidence of the i’taukei people that they can do it too.”

Mr Baleilevuka said they have rules and regulations in place when they let people in.

“When drivers come in, we don’t ask for money from them. We just ask them for base fee and $45 for their servicing fee a week,” he said.

“The service fee is for servicing their cars including washing.

“The reason why we are called Tiko Kece because all drivers are from different professions.”

Tiko Kece Taxis & Hire has been helping the Matua programme.

“We sponsor the Matua programme. We have two taxis that drop Matua teachers off for free. We have been doing this the past 16 years and will continue providing that service,” Mr Baleilevuka said.

“We sponsor prize giving and sports events for Nabua Secondary School and primary school too. This is one way we are giving back to the community. We try to do our best to help in any way we can.”

Solar

Mr Baleilevuka is hoping to have all their base use solar.

“Our Nabua base is run by solar system and we are hoping that when we build the three-taxi base in the three new location it will also operate through solar so that it doesn’t disrupt our service,” he said

“When there is no power our operation will continue as normal so that doesn’t stop us from providing good service to all Fijians.”
