Denarau could be home to a three-day tourism expo planned for May.

The magnitude of the event would warrant such a location, said event organiser, Tourism Fiji.

“The expo is an opportunity to engage directly with international  buyers and travel and trade media,” chief executive officer, Brent Hill, said.

The expo will feature information about new resorts, renovations, updates and experiences across the tourism sector.

“The need to find a location that can effectively and efficiently facilitate, accommodate and manage the 2022 Fijian Tourism Expo, is a critical success factor for Tourism Fiji,” the organisation said.

As much of Fiji as possible

The event returns after two and half years.

Tourism Fiji will emphasise the fact that the tourism market is ‘Open for Happiness’, Mr Hill said.

“We want agents, the media and tourism and trade to disperse across the whole of Fiji, before and after the event,” he said.

“Many agents and trade won’t have been to Fiji for at least that maybe more.

“In that time, Sheraton will have opened, Como Laucala changed, with renovations at Vomo, Kokomo, Likuliku, Lomani, and Plantation to name a few.”

Conferences are back

Fiji remains a key attraction of international tourism, ever since  the success of its race to officially reopen international travel on December 1, 2021.

“It will also show that conferences are back,” Mr Hill said

“There will be hundreds invited from around the world and choosing to come to Fiji.

“We expect that many will take the opportunities available to re-acquaint themselves with Fiji, especially all the many new elements that we have in our industry.”

Expo event venue

Tourism Fiji advertised a tender for a venue to host the event.

It is looking for services that will include:

  • an air conditioned ballroom that can accommodate as much as 400 people at one time, under COVID-19 controlled restrictions.
  • accommodate 100-plus exhibition booths, while maintaining adequate ventilation.
  • options for existing fiber or wireless internet connection.
  • backup electricity and water supply.
