Journalism promises to make a comeback as a popular job, on the strength of courses offered at University of Fiji, after it introduced journalism and media studies at its Suva campus this month.

The launch of the programme in the Central Division came with the promise to deliver industry-ready graduates.

Vice-chancellor Professor Shaista Shameem said the next batch of journalists to graduate from University of Fiji would hit the ground running.

“They will not need training when they get employed,” she said.

The university’s Journalism and Media programme would raise the bar for the industry, as it aimed to provide better media training for well-rounded graduates, she said.

“Our Journalism and Media Studies programme is a one-stop shop for students trained by top journalists in Fiji and veteran reporters,” Professor Shameem said.

The programme will be home to versatile journalists who can work equally in the newsroom, advertising, marketing, sub-editing, radio production, film, and provide leadership, she said.
