The United States of America and Fiji maritime defence watch relationship is founded on a long shared history in global operations, common interests and mutual respect.

This was the comment made by US Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star captain Michael Davanzo while being asked of Fiji and US relations.

The team arrived at the port of Suva yesterday.

“Fiji’s exclusive economic zone covered a huge area which the Fiji Navy covers,” Captain Davanzo said.

“We have offered defence partners maritime surveillance to the Fiji Force.

“We work closely with the American Navy and Defence Force team,” he said.

Captain Davanzo said 25 members of Polar Star would conduct a clean-up of the Suva foreshore, today.

“This is to help Fiji beautify the Suva foreshore and to join Government in the Fiji Bite campaign,” he said.

The vessel leaves for Seattle on Friday.
