A man accused of killing a pet dog in Vatuwaqa, Suva, has been advised to get a lawyer to help him understand the charges he faces.

Isikeli Maravu appeared in the Suva Magistrate Court before Magistrate Vinaina Diroiroi.

He is charged with one count each of criminal intimidation and causing death to an animal, following an incident on August 31 in which he allegedly killed a dog named Oscar.

Maravu told the court he did not throw a timber at the dog’s owner, a claim linked to the criminal intimidation charge.

He was released on bail, and the case has been adjourned to October 14.
