Charters seeks travel clearance

Lawyers for former journalist and sports marketing expert Charlie Charters have filed a bail variation application seeking permission for him to travel to Australia for work.
Charters appeared with his lawyer, Seforan Fatiaki, before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne this afternoon.
He is charged with two counts of aiding and abetting an unknown person in the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) in connection with a FICAC investigation.

FICAC lawyer Rusiate Doidoi objected to the application and sought time to file and serve submissions in response.
The court gave FICAC until March 2 to respond, when the substantive matter will be called.
The bail variation application will be heard on March 3. The court is expected to deliver its ruling on March 4.
Charters remains on bail.
