A Vodafone Gold N Water Carnival contestant is calling on Tavua residents to work together to create a cleaner and more environmentally friendly town.

Miss Rolling Moments Fiji, Leba Fane Raileqe, one of five contestants competing for the carnival crown, said protecting Tavua’s natural environment was a shared responsibility.

"I would like to advocate for an eco-friendly Gold Town Tavua," Ms Raileqe said.

She said Tavua was blessed with natural beauty, green spaces and a strong sense of community, and residents had a responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.

Ms Raileqe said proper waste management was key to achieving a greener town.

She encouraged residents to use recycling bins, reduce plastic waste and raise awareness about the importance of keeping Tavua clean.

She also called for more tree planting and the protection of existing green spaces, saying community tree-planting initiatives could strengthen both the environment and community spirit.

Ms Raileqe urged households, schools and businesses to adopt environmentally friendly practices, including using reusable bags, conserving water and electricity, and reducing pollution.

"My vision is for Gold Town Tavua to become a model of environmental responsibility, where development and nature exist in harmony," she said.

"By working together, we can inspire future generations to continue protecting our beautiful town."

The weeklong Vodafone Gold N Water Carnival is underway at Garvey Park in Tavua, with the crowning ceremony scheduled for Saturday night.
