Court adjourns case against four officers accused of assault

Jekope Nakula, Maciu Tuira, Tokoni Nemia and Unaisi Naqiri appeared in the Magistrates Court, with the matter now set to return on June 22.

A case involving four police officers accused of assaulting a man during a 2024 drug operation in Suva has been adjourned to June 22.

The matter was called before the Suva Magistrate Courttoday, where Jekope Nakula, Maciu Tuira, Tokoni Nemia and Unaisi Naqiri appeared in relation to the allegations.

The accused were expected to appear before Magistrate Charles Ratakele, but the matter was adjourned by Magistrate Riyaz Hamza as the court was not sitting.

The officers are alleged to have assaulted Stephen Serukalou O’Connor during a drug raid at Wailea Settlement, Vatuwaqa, between March 15 and 16, 2024.

According to the prosecution, the alleged assault resulted in O’Connor being unlawfully wounded during the operation.

The matter will be called again on June 22.
