Court orders trial support in Dr Leighley case
Court directs that self-represented accused be given facilities to prepare defence.

The High Court in Lautoka has directed a self-represented accused be provided with appropriate facilities to prepare his defence before his murder trial begins next week.
Murder accused Peceli Rokoravolo, who is representing himself, appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge today.
He is charged in relation to the alleged murder of Dr Biumaitotoya, also known as Dr Leighley Darling, between August 31 and September 1, 2025.

During the hearing, Rokoravolo told the court he would attempt to obtain the station diary and vehicle running sheet by next Monday, despite anticipating difficulties in accessing the documents.
He also raised concerns about his personal needs, including access to clothing and communication with his family.
State prosecutor Joeli Naivalu told the court he would advise the investigating officer to look into the issue of the accused's clothing and determine whether sufficient clothing had been provided at the time of arrest.
The prosecution also agreed to assist Rokoravolo in retrieving his clothing from police custody by requesting the contact details of a family member who could collect the items on his behalf.
State prosecutor Joeli Nasa told the court that seven voir dire matters would need to be dealt with before the trial.
Rokoravolo further asked the court to order that he be provided adequate space and facilities at the remand centre to enable him to prepare for trial, which is scheduled to begin on July 8.
Justice Aluthge confirmed that necessary arrangements would be made to ensure Rokoravolo had appropriate facilities to prepare his defence.
The court then dismissed the bail application.
Rokoravolo also raised concerns that media coverage of the case could affect proceedings.
Justice Aluthge reminded the media to exercise caution and responsibility in its reporting. The trial is scheduled to begin on July 8.
