Fiji Labour Party member Benjamin Padarath has been warned against making further social media posts or creating fake accounts as his case starts.
Resident Magistrate Yogesh Prasad set this condition while granting Padarath bail for a cybercrime charge at the Suva Magistrate Court this morning.
Although disclosures have not yet been served to the accused, it is alleged that Padarath created a fake Fiji Sun article defaming two Members of Parliament.

Padarath appeared with his lawyer, Simione Valenitabua Senior, for his first call.
Police prosecutor Inspector Jone Tupua was reprimanded after seeking more time to file disclosures to the defense.
Tupua told the court the case originated from the Cybercrime Unit and disclosures were still being prepared.
He objected to bail on the grounds of public interest, stating the alleged crime involved electronic devices being used to harm others—a growing concern in Fiji.
Mr Valenitabua argued that provisions under the Bail Act 2002 allow his client bail, emphasising the presumption of innocence.
He said that Padarath was first questioned in May and brought into custody again on Tuesday before being produced in court today.
The court granted bail with strict conditions, including:
- $4,000 cash bail;
- Two sureties;
- Surrender of travel documents;
- Stop Departure Order;
- No interference with state witnesses; and
- No reoffending
The court also warned Padarath against opening any new social media accounts or creating fake profiles. Any breach will result in remand.
Sureties, including FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry, were sternly advised of their responsibilities to ensure Padarath attends all court proceedings.
The matter has been adjourned to February 18 before Resident Magistrate Charles Ratakele for compliance checks.
