The Fiji Corrections Service Deputy Commissioner, Auta Moceisuva, has testified that the transfer of the suspended Commissioner’s stepson may have been influenced by the Commissioner’s wife.

Mr Moceisuva is the 10th State witness in the tribunal hearing against suspended Corrections Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa, who is accused of making unlawful appointments and authorising salaries and funds during his tenure.

The case concluded late last night, with four witnesses taking the stand before the three-member tribunal comprising Justice Daniel Goundar, Justice Savenaca Banuve, and Justice Dane Tuiqereqere.

Mr Moceisuva stated that although he had known Mr Nakarawa for 30 years, he did not agree with some of the decisions made during his leadership.

He referred to an incident in which Mr Nakarawa’s stepson, Jeremaia Yavala, was transferred from the Engineering Department to the CCTV Unit within two weeks.

Mr Moceisuva said Mr Yavala did not follow the proper recruitment process.
