Former SODELPA Member of Parliament Simione Rasova had been granted to secure a new lawyer in a case brought against him by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
Rasova is charged with one count each of providing false information to a public servant and obtaining a financial advantage.
It is alleged that on February 14, 2019, he gave false information to the Acting Secretary-General to Parliament regarding his permanent place of residence, stating it was in Nasenivolau, Nabouwalu Village, Ono, Kadavu.

The information was allegedly used to obtain allowance payments totalling $21,350.
Defence lawyer Tomasi Tuitoga told the court that he would continue to represent Rasova temporarily until new counsel was appointed.
He said Rasova had approached Barbara Malimali and another lawyer; however, Ms Malimali declined to take up the case, while the other lawyer had since joined the Office of the Attorney-General.
FICAC lawyer Josann Pene did not oppose the application for additional time, noting that Rasova was entitled to legal representation.
However, she stressed that he must comply with the court’s timeline and secure counsel before the next hearing.
Presiding Magistrate Joseph Daurewa said the matter, which dated back to 2021, needed to be expedited and concluded within the year.
The case was adjourned to April 24.
