A court case involving allegations of more than $153,000 in losses to the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited has been adjourned to July 7.

Former FBCL chief executive officer Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the company’s chief financial officer Vimlesh Sagar appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday, where their matter was scheduled before Magistrate Charles Ratakele.

The case was adjourned as the court was not in session.

Sayed-Khaiyum faces one count of abuse of office for gain, with an alternative charge of general dishonesty causing a loss.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption alleges that between July 2017 and January 2023, he initiated five separate legal proceedings on behalf of FBCL without the knowledge or approval of the company’s board of directors.

Prosecutors claim the legal actions were not in the interests of FBCL and resulted in a loss of $138,813.37 to the company.

Sagar is charged with general dishonesty causing a loss for allegedly approving payments totalling $15,075.88 to a law firm without board approval.

The matter will be recalled on July 7.
