The Nadi Magistrate Court has remanded a Canadian national for a psychiatric evaluation.

The accused, Heila Vroyer, charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, appeared before Magistrate Talei Kean during the special court sitting last Saturday.

The court heard that she allegedly assaulted Kasanita Vukivuki at Nadi International Airport border premises on the evening of May 14.

She was arrested at the terminal after allegedly attempting to escape while being escorted by officers, including the customs officers.

Police prosecutor Corporal Jovesa Saumaki said the accused was considered a flight risk.

During proceedings, she repeatedly interjected.

Magistrate Kean warned the accused not to waste the court’s time.

The magistrate said, after observing her behaviour in court, she ordered a psychiatric evaluation and transferred the matter to the Suva Magistrate Court. The matter was adjourned to May 29.
