Former Fiji Chess president granted bail over $40,000 theft

Taione Sikivou faces 25 counts of theft, remanded until sureties are provided.

Former president of the Fiji Chess Federation, Taione Sikivou, has been granted bail after appearing in the Suva Magistrate Court on theft charges totaling $45,975.

Sikivou appeared before Resident Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne yesterday afternoon, facing 25 counts of theft.

It is alleged that between 2023 and 2024, Sikivou made multiple unauthorised transactions from the federation, amounting to approximately $40,000.

Sikivou waived his right to legal counsel. The court granted bail on the condition that he provide two suitable sureties.

He will remain in remand until the sureties are produced in court tomorrow.
