Two police officers and two civilians charged in relation to the importation of 4.7 kilograms of methamphetamine will take their pleas on March 27.

Ratu Lote Leweivuna, Sevuloni Lubi, Eroni Bati and Alipate Matadigo appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Suva today.

Ratu Lote and Lubi share a charge of possession of 4.7kg meth, Bati faces a charge of importing while Matadigo was charged for assisting the transportation of the drugs.

The matter had been called to check on the consolidated charges from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. However, the State informed the court that more time was required.

Defence lawyers told the court they intended to take their pleas once the information and disclosures were ready.

However, Justice Goundar questioned the need for the delay, stating that the accused could enter their pleas based on the charges while waiting for the consolidated information.

The court also heard that all accused persons are expected to file fresh bail applications before the next court date.

Ratu Lote and Lubi have engaged a new lawyer from Lal Patel Bale law firm while Principal lawyer of Maisamoa & Associates, Kalisito Maisamoa  represented Bati and Mesake Waqavanua from Legal Aid Commission appeared for Matadigo.

They have been released on bail until the next hearing.
