High Court orders psychiatric assessment for alleged grandpa killer

Charles Laxton Sundar, who is accused of attacking his grandfather with a cane knife and causing his death, appeared in the High Court in Suva today before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere.
The incident occurred on July 12 this year at Navokadamu Settlement in Lutu, Wainibuka.
According to the allegations, Sundar used a cane knife to strike his grandfather, causing serious injuries that later led to the elderly man’s death.

Sundar who is charged with one count of murder alleged caused the death of his grandfather during the violent attack.
During the hearing, the court was informed that Sundar required further psychiatric assessment.
The report is needed to ascertain his mental state at the time of the alleged offence and to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.
Justice Tuiqereqere acknowledged the request and agreed that a complete psychiatric evaluation is necessary before the matter can proceed.
The case has been adjourned to December 23.
