A 28-year-old man who allegedly broke into a woman’s home, threatened her and raped her has been remanded in custody by the Lautoka Magistrate Court.
Waisea Rinakama appeared before Magistrate Seini Puamau yesterday, charged with one count of rape following the alleged incident earlier this week in Lautoka.

Magistrate Puamau highlighted the seriousness of the allegations, noting the need to protect the community and uphold public interest.
Given the gravity of the offences and that the alleged victim is a minor, the matter has been transferred to the High Court for further proceedings.
The accused was also warned to notify the High Court and prosecution within 48 hours if he intends to rely on an alibi defence.
The case has been adjourned to June 10 in the High Court.
