Man admits drug possession, says for personal use

A 25-year-old man has admitted in court that the drugs found on him were for his own use.

Suliasi Wasakitoga appeared before Magistrate Manormar Devi in the Suva Magistrate Court today, where he pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Police prosecution told the court that Wasakitoga was found with two clear zip-lock bags containing a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. The total weight of the drugs was 0.120 grams.

During the hearing, Magistrate Devi asked prosecutors whether the drugs were intended for sale or personal use.

Wasakitoga admitted in court that the drugs were for his own use.

Police also revealed that on the day he was found with the drugs, Wasakitoga had been smoking marijuana.

In mitigation, the court heard that Wasakitoga is married with one child and is self-employed, earning around $50 a week. He also asked the court for forgiveness.

The case has been adjourned to May 7 for sentencing.
