The Suva Magistrate Court has remanded a 36-year-old man charged with unlawfully transporting 4.7 kilograms of methamphetamine in Suva last month.

Alipate Matadigo appeared before Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza this afternoon, facing one count of unlawful transportation of illicit drugs allegedly committed on September 16.

During the proceedings, Police Prosecutor Sergeant Sharmila Lata objected to bail, citing that Matadigo’s case is linked to another ongoing case involving three other men facing similar charges. These related cases are currently pending in other magistrate courts.

Sergeant Lata said the matter is of public interest.

Matadigo has opted to seek legal representation from the Legal Aid Commission.

The case has been adjourned to October 13 and will be heard before Magistrate Charles Ratakele.
