An Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) inspector appeared in the High Court in Suva yesterday in proceedings linked to the death of a woman who fell from a Ferris wheel in 2023.

Accused Ashneel Nath, represented by lawyer Karl Jamnadas, is facing manslaughter-related proceedings arising from the incident.

The prosecution told the court it had amended its case under the Health and Safety at Work Act, alleging failures in inspection and compliance duties contributed to the fatal accident.

It claims Nath’s duties included checking machinery safety and issuing compliance certificates.

The defence disputed the allegations, arguing that Nath was not the operator of the Ferris wheel and that the negligence claims lacked clarity.

The defence also raised concerns about disclosure.

The matter was adjourned to July 9.
