The corporate manslaughter case against two directors of Raviravi Timber has been adjourned to July 17 after the defence sought more time to complete outstanding pre-trial matters.

Sushila Devi and Vinay Prakash appeared before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

The defence was granted an additional 21 days to address outstanding pre-trial conference issues.

State prosecution told the court they had no objection to the defence request.

Devi and Prakash are jointly charged with one count of corporate manslaughter.

The State alleges the two directors allowed Savenaca Damuni to operate a forklift despite knowing he did not hold the required licence.

The charge stems from a workplace incident in which Damuni, while reversing the forklift, allegedly struck his six-year-old son. The child suffered serious injuries and later died.

Earlier this week, Damuni was sentenced by the High Court to two years and eight months' imprisonment after being convicted over his son's death.

However, 26 months of the sentence was suspended for five years, meaning he will serve six months in prison.

The matter has been adjourned to July 17. Both directors remain on bail.
