Six to stand trial over alleged meth haul after court rejects no-case bid

Six people charged over the alleged possession and supply of methamphetamine following a Police raid in 2025 will stand trial after the Suva Magistrates Court ruled there was a case to answer.

Five foreign nationals and two Fijians appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza today for a ruling on their applications for a no-case-to-answer.

The accused are Ginna Choi, Dai Ming Hui, Yu Yanfeng, Zhou Lan, Josua Ravula and Peniasi Delai.

Magistrate Hamza delivered an oral ruling, finding there was a case to answer. A written ruling is expected to be available tomorrow.

Josua Ravula is charged with one count of unlawful possession of 42.295 grams of methamphetamine.

Choi, Baules and Delai are jointly charged with possession of 0.3455 grams of methamphetamine.

Choi also faces a separate charge of possessing $993.75 in foreign currency.

Baules is further charged with being a prohibited immigrant after allegedly overstaying a visitor permit in Fiji by seven days between September 3 and 16 last year.

The three Chinese nationals — Dai Ming Hui, Yu Yanfeng and Zhou Lan — are jointly charged with possession of 39.509 grams of methamphetamine.

Zhou also faces an additional charge of possessing $8,136.24 in foreign currency suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Yu faces an additional charge of unlawful supply of methamphetamine and possession of $906.25 suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The matter has been adjourned to August 20.
