Convicted wife killer Apisai Madigibuli will be sentenced on July 2.

The sentencing date was set after the High Court in Suva heard submissions from the prosecution regarding the killing of Madigibuli's pregnant wife, Kitiana Baravilala.

Madigibuli appeared before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere today for sentencing submissions and a mitigation hearing.

The court heard that the State is seeking a starting point of 20 years' imprisonment.

Prosecutor Talica Vakaloloma described the offence as a serious and premeditated murder committed under the guise of co-parenting.

Madigibuli was found guilty earlier this month of murdering Baravilala in 2024.

The prosecution submitted that Baravilala was particularly vulnerable at the time of the incident because she was four months pregnant.

The court also heard that the couple's young daughter witnessed her father stabbing her mother and continues to suffer trauma as a result.

Ms Vakaloloma said the impact of the violence had extended beyond the victim, affecting family members who are now caring for the child.

The prosecution further submitted that Madigibuli had shown no remorse for his actions.

Madigibuli has spent two years, one month and 22 days in remand, which will be taken into account during sentencing.

Justice Tuiqereqere said he would need time to consider the submissions before delivering his sentence on July 2.
