Temple sacrilege accused fit for trial

Samuela Tawase, 28, who was charged with committing sacrilege at the Samabula Shiv Mandir Temple in Suva, is fit to take plea and stand trial.  

Tawase first appeared in court on July 14, where Magistrate Yogesh Prasad had referred him to the St Giles Psychiatric Evaluation department for evaluation. 

It is alleged that Tawase climbed over the grilled fence of the temple and began smashing Hindu ornaments on July 11.

Today, the court heard the psychiatric report deemed Tawase fit to take plea and stand trial.  

The case was adjourned to October 23, 2025.
