Trial date set for Nadi couple charged in cocaine export case

A trial date has been set for a Nadi couple facing charges over the alleged exportation of illicit drugs.

Alzaid Shain Rizwan Ali and Grace Katia Liuvoliga appeared before High Court Judge Riyaz Hamza in Lautoka today.

The couple faces two counts of unlawful possession of 12.33 kilograms of cocaine and one count of unlawful exportation of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that Ali and Liuvoliga were in possession of 12.33 kilograms of cocaine on February 15, 2024, at Vuda Bypass Road, Lautoka.

The court heard that the couple allegedly transferred and transported the cocaine from Vuda Bypass Road to Field 40 in Lautoka.

They are also alleged to have attempted to facilitate the exportation of the drugs.

The couple was previously remanded in custody but later released on bail.

Their trial has been set for June 8.
