Two police officers charged over illicit drug case to appear in court

The 43-year-old and 31-year-old Police Officers have been jointly charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs.

The two Police Officers arrested on Friday for allegedly being in unlawful possession of illicit drugs have been charged and will appear in court tomorrow.

Police confirmed that the liquid chemical seized in the case has tested positive for methamphetamine.

Charges against the officers were sanctioned by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 43-year-old and 31-year-old Police Officers have been jointly charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs under the Illicit Drugs Control Act.

In addition, the 31-year-old officer faces further charges of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs under the Illicit Drugs Control Act and Possession of Properties Suspected of Being Proceeds of Crime under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Both accused persons will be appearing in custody at the Suva Magistrates Court tomorrow.
