Woman granted bail as biker remains hospitalised after Laucala Bay Road crash

The Suva Magistrate’s Court granted $1000 bail to Durga Lal, charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, while the injured motorcyclist remains in hospital.

A woman charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm has been granted bail by the Suva Magistrate Court.

Durga Lal, appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele yesterday for her first call.

She is accused of making an illegal right turn from Ratu Kadavulevu Road onto Laucala Bay Road on December 3, colliding with motorcyclist Rahul Rakeshor Pal.

The accident occurred around 7.40pm near Laucala Bay Road.

The court heard the charges and stood down the matter to allow Lal's parents to appear as sureties.

When the case resumed at noon, both sureties were produced and Magistrate Ratakele granted bail on strict conditions with a bond of $1000.

Lal is represented by Lenina Prasad from Benjamin Ram Lawyers, while Police Prosecutor Sharon Prasad appeared for the State.

Fiji Police Force spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the victim remains admitted at the Tamavua Rehabilitation Centre receiving treatment for spinal injuries.

The matter has been adjourned to February 23 for plea, when the prosecution is expected to furnish the victim's medical report.
