A former accounts officer has appeared in the Suva Magistrate Court charged with allegedly stealing more than $91,000 from her employer over a five-year period.

Nilanti Narishna Chand, 35, appeared before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad today, where her lawyer filed a formal bail application.

It is alleged that between October 26, 2018, and December 13, 2023, Chand dishonestly appropriated $91,662.99 belonging to Gold Rock Investments Limited with the intention of permanently depriving the company of the money.

The prosecution alleges she obtained the money without lawful authority while employed as an accounts officer.

The court directed that submissions on the bail application be completed within 14 days before a ruling is delivered on July 24.

Chand has been remanded in custody.
