Man flees drug raid on horseback after threatening police, woman arrested
Dramatic escape in Navosa as officers uncover nearly 2000 marijuana plants; woman arrested, manhunt underway.

A drug raid in the remote Vunibota Settlement of Navosa took a dramatic turn yesterday when a man allegedly threatened police officers with a knife before fleeing the scene on horseback.
The Western Division Operations team had arrived at the suspect’s home to execute a search warrant when the man, armed with a knife, reportedly confronted the officers.
While the suspect remains at large, police arrested a 48-year-old woman at the scene.

A search of the property uncovered what authorities believe to be a significant quantity of marijuana, close to 2000 dried plants wrapped in cloth, along with zip lock bags containing loose dried leaves and seeds. The seized materials have been sent for forensic analysis.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe confirmed the arrest and said efforts to locate the second suspect are continuing. He also revealed that the Navosa raid was part of a broader crackdown on illicit drugs across the country.
Throughout the week, police made arrests for unlawful possession of marijuana and methamphetamine in various locations including Labasa Market, Makoi, Kadavu, Ba, Naikabula in Lautoka, Savusavu foreshore, Narere, Taveuni, Narayan Jetty in Suva, Sakoca, Lami, and Nabua.
ACP Vusonilawe said operations will be intensified heading into the festive season, with a focus on disrupting the drug trade and protecting communities.
