The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has been allocated $152.6 million in the 2026–2027 National Budget, down from the $168 million allocated in the 2025–2026 Budget.
Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel said the RFMF remained a key institution in safeguarding Fiji's sovereignty and supporting national and regional security operations.
"The RFMF remains central to safeguarding Fiji's sovereignty, security and national interests, while contributing actively to regional and global peacekeeping and security efforts."

Focus on crime and border security
Mr Immanuel said a major priority for the coming financial year was strengthening Fiji's ability to combat transnational crime, particularly drug trafficking.
"A key focus of the funding to the military is to enhance Fiji's ability to combat transnational crime, particularly through its role in the Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force."
He said the funding would support:
- enhanced maritime surveillance;
- improved border protection; and
- greater inter-agency coordination.
The investments are intended to strengthen coordination between the RFMF, Fiji Police Force and other enforcement agencies as the Government intensifies its response to drug-related crime and cross-border threats.
Despite the lower allocation, the continued emphasis on counter-narcotics operations and border security signals the Government's focus on targeted operational capabilities rather than broader spending increases.
The RFMF allocation forms part of a broader security budget of more than $443 million, which includes:
- Fiji Police Force – $226.5 million; and
- Fiji Corrections Service – $64.7 million.
