Edweena Mawi has been named Suva Grammar School’s 2025 Dux after scoring an impressive 464 out of 500 marks, securing her place as the school’s top academic performer of the year.

Originally from Waikete, Nakelo, Tailevu, with maternal ties to Yalava, Macuata, Edweena’s success story is one of resilience, faith, and determination.

A Year 13 Technical Science student, Edweena took Physics, Applied Technology, and Technical Drawing—subjects that demanded both discipline and focus.

She also received eight awards in total, not only for academics but also for her participation in sports and extracurricular activities, including hockey and cheerleading.

She shared that it was her first year joining such activities, and they taught her valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and balance.

“There were days I didn’t feel like opening a book,” she said.

“But I reminded myself, if I can push through hockey training even when I’m tired, I can also push through studying. The same discipline applies.”

Edweena said the journey to being named Dux was far from easy, especially in her final year.

“Sometimes the notes given by teachers don’t cover what comes in the exams,” she explained. “You just have to find your own way and use other resources. It’s about not giving up when things get hard.”

Whatever you pursue, always remember the people who have helped you get there, especially your parents.

  • English - 92,
  • Mathematics – 89,
  • Physics – 91,
  • Applied Technology – 99,
  • Technical Drawing – 93

Despite her many achievements, Edweena remains humble and credits her success to God, her parents, and her teachers for their endless support.

“There are so many distractions today, from social media to relationships, but don’t lose sight of what’s truly important, your education and your relationship with God.”

With her strong values, faith, and determination, Edweena Mawi stands as an inspiration to her peers and a proud example of the excellence that defines Suva Grammar High School.
