More than 63 per cent of women will graduate from the University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Laucala Campus at Vodafone Arena in Suva this week.

In total, 1880 students will graduate, with 1202 of them being women.

Yesterday, 596 students graduated from the School of Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics (STEMP), the School of Business and Management (SBM), and the School of Agriculture, Geography, Environment, Oceans and Natural Sciences (SAGEONS).

Graduation celebrations will continue today, with the remaining students from other schools receiving their awards.

USP Vice-Chancellor and president Professor Pal Ahluwalia praised graduates for their outstanding accomplishments.

“Today marks a milestone in your journey of learning and personal growth. This commencement is not an end, but a continuation of the story you are writing with diligence, passion, and perseverance,” he said.

Among the graduates was Jessie Mule Siga, who completed her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science.

She shared her emotional journey through university, having lost her father at the start of her studies.

“It’s a bittersweet moment. But I’m happy that all the hard work from the three years of study has paid off. And I have my mum and siblings to thank for that,” she said.

Ms Siga also encouraged current and future students to manage their time well, stay focused, and keep faith.

“Keep working hard, and put your trust in the Lord,” she advised.

Later in the day, another 476 students graduated from the Pacific Technical and Further Education (PTAFE).
