Strengthening discipline and bridging the gap between students and teachers will be the top priorities for Suva Muslim College’s newly inducted student leaders.
A total of 118 prefects were officially badged today during the school’s induction ceremony, where headboy Armaan Numair Ali and headgirl Humairaa Ali pledged to lead by example in guiding the school’s 525 students.
Eighteen-year-old Armaan Ali said leadership at a multicultural institution required understanding and consistency.

“Our school is multicultural, and it has its own unique ways of doing things,” he said.
“As student leaders, we must respect those differences while ensuring that discipline remains strong because discipline is one of the key components in addressing the challenges students face today.”
He said leadership extended beyond wearing a badge.
“It is about setting the right example every day in the classroom, during school activities and even outside the school. Every small action contributes to building a better school environment.”
Headgirl Humairaa Ali said prefects must first understand the pressures students face before attempting to guide them.
“With the many challenges students face nowadays, the only way forward is to first identify the issues they go through daily,” she said.
“When we understand their struggles, whether it is academic pressure, peer influence or personal challenges, we can work together to find practical solutions.”
She said the prefect body aimed to serve as a bridge between students and teachers.
“We want students to feel comfortable approaching prefects when they need help or guidance. Our role is not only to enforce rules but also to support and encourage our fellow students so that everyone can succeed.”
School officials reminded the prefects that leadership carried responsibility and trust, urging them to uphold the school’s values and maintain high standards throughout the academic year.
The new prefect body is expected to play a central role in promoting respect, supporting student welfare and assisting school management in programmes planned for the year.
