Parents urged to keep children safe as schools close
Parents have been strongly advised not to allow children to cross flooded areas under any circumstances.

Parents and guardians are being urged to closely supervise their children as all schools remain closed due to severe weather conditions.
The Ministry of Education said students must stay at home under parental supervision, warning that flooding across many areas has made travel unsafe.
In recent days, heavy rain has affected roads, crossings and low-lying communities, posing serious risks to students, especially those who travel long distances or cross creeks, rivers and drains.

The ministry also urged families to boil drinking water as a precaution to protect children’s health.
All schools will remain closed on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, until further notice following consultations with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) and reports from all four divisions.
Tertiary institutions have been advised to make their own operational decisions based on risk assessments.
Authorities said they would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
