Boubale Primary School in Labasa received a boost to its educational resources after an overseas donor provided learning materials and rain‑safety umbrellas for students.
The assistance coincided with the school’s induction of 19 student prefects during a ceremony held recently.
Head teacher Shanjesh Kumar acknowledged the support, saying it would motivate students to strive for academic excellence.

Mr Kumar said receiving assistance from Hindu priest Pundit Salendra Sharma reflected his commitment to the educational growth of children.
Pt Sharma manages a United States‑based organisation known as New Hope Fiji USA.
He said the donation of exercise books for all 100 students from Years 1 to 8 would ease the financial burden on families, ensuring students without basic stationery would not incur additional costs.
A laptop was also presented to last year’s Year 8 dux in recognition of academic excellence.
Despite being a small school with close to 100 students, Mr Kumar said ensuring each child had adequate learning resources contributed to achieving strong academic results.
“When educated people dedicate their time and effort to helping students reach their potential, it reflects the good values instilled in them during childhood,” he said.
Head boy Sotia Nakato expressed appreciation for the assistance, saying it would support students in their educational journey. He said being appointed head prefect was a blessing and that he was committed to leading students with discipline.
Head girl Esther Tekei said that as a small school, any form of assistance boosted students’ confidence and morale. She expressed hope that such support would continue.
Mr Kumar added that many students came from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, prompting the school to seek external assistance.
“As teachers, we witness the struggles our students go through, so such assistance helps them remain committed to their studies,” he said.
Another prominent guest of honour also attended the prefects’ induction ceremony.
