“Your qualification is not just a certificate, but a platform to innovate, to lead, to lift communities, and to shape Fiji’s future.”

This was the message delivered by Fiji Development Bank (FDB) chief executive Filimone Waqabaca as 399 students graduated from the Fiji National University’s College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS) yesterday.

He highlighted the rapid transformation across industries, emphasising that Fiji’s progress depends on the strength of its human capital.

Among them were 57 officers from the Fiji Corrections Service who completed the Certificate in Correctional Practice Level 5.

The ceremony was held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Mr Waqabaca told graduates that the day marked not only academic success but years of perseverance, sacrifice and resilience.

He urged them to stay curious, embrace challenges and lead with integrity.

“Fiji needs thinkers who can turn ideas into impact,” he said.

“Growth often emerges from difficult moments, and success is measured not just by achievements, but by the values we uphold and the impact we make.”

He added that the Class of 2025 would become Fiji’s next generation of entrepreneurs, analysts, managers, creators, tourism leaders, and innovators, guided by respect, humility, resilience, and ethical leadership.

FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo commended graduates for balancing study with work, family and personal challenges.

“Graduation comes after long nights, sacrifices and challenges, yet here you are,” she said. “We celebrate your strength and resilience today.”

Ms Nabobo reminded graduates to carry forward FNU’s values of care, honesty, accountability, service and excellence.

“You are our future leaders, thinkers and change-makers. The world is waiting for your gifts,” she said.

A total of 259 women and 161 men graduated, marking a new cohort of skilled professionals entering Fiji’s business, hospitality, tourism and corrections sectors.

FDB said it was proud to stand with the graduates as they step confidently into the future prepared, motivated and ready to make a difference.
