With the $3 million renovation of the Lautoka Bus Station nearing completion, the Lautoka City Council is calling on the public and key stakeholders to take responsibility for maintaining the facility once operations begin.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of this month and remains within the agreed timeline.
The council has showcased the upgraded bus station and expressed hope that it will remain clean and well maintained once it reopens to commuters.

However, it has raised concerns about recurring issues experienced at the old bus station, particularly oil leaks from buses.
The council said some bus operators and drivers have continued to be careless despite previous warnings.
Oil leaking from buses spills onto the ground and poses a safety risk to pedestrians, especially passengers walking through the station to board buses.
Lautoka Board of Special Administrators chairperson Taitusi Rasoki urged the public, bus drivers and bus operators to play their part in maintaining the facility.
“It all boils down to civic pride — a sense of ownership and responsibility where all stakeholders play their part,” Mr Rasoki said.
He said the infrastructure upgrade aimed to enhance services for the thousands of commuters who rely on the bus station daily.
“The project will be completed before the end of January and is still within the agreed timeline,” Mr Rasoki said.
