It will take a ‘miracle’ for a multi-million-dollar hangar construction project to open in the next two months, sources close to the development said.

But when it does, employment figures for COMO Laucala Island will increase.

The tourism operator’s Nadi project has had many “Coming Soon” opening dates since its stop-start construction history.

While the resort’s Nadi International Airport luxury lounge was open, COMO Laucala Island’s hangar was scheduled to open before the end the year.

The delay in opening the hangar was partly owed to a ‘wrong mix of concrete’ on the connecting apron that had to be dug up and replaced, SunBiz was reliably informed.

Chronology

2019: COMO Laucala Island’s $45 million luxury lounge and hangar facility announced.

2022: Stop order issued for construction at the Nadi project site.

2023: Stop order lifted.

High Roller Destination

Laucala Island is a big-spender destination where big names go, Trade minister Manoa Kamikamica said.

Last year, Mr Kamikamica attributed the delay in the development of the hangar to “bottle neck” in the investor space.

COMO Laucala Island is a private island resort in Fiji with an airstrip for private planes and 25 villas that recalibrate the idea of luxury.

The tourism property has three aircraft which have been flying for years.
