“This award is for my father, who taught me the value of truth and integrity in journalism. Every story I write carries a part of him,” Mr Koroi said in an emotional speech.
He reflected on the lessons his father gave him throughout his career.
“My father always said that a journalist’s duty is to the people, not to power. He taught me to speak up, even when it’s hard,” Mr Koroi said.
“He showed me that honesty, patience, and persistence are what make a journalist truly respected,” he added.
Mr Koroi encouraged young journalists to carry forward these values.
“Be bold, be fair, and be fearless when holding leaders accountable,” he urged.
Mr Koroi’s win was not just a recognition of professional excellence, but also a touching tribute to a father whose lessons continue to guide Fiji’s next generation of journalists.
