Ba cane grower receives $29,750 insurance payout after house fire

A Ba sugarcane grower whose home was destroyed in a fire has received a $29,750 insurance payout through the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) House Insurance Scheme.
Venesh Kumar of Etatoko had lost his family home in a fire on June 27.
He received the documentation on Friday in Ba and had made plans to use the funds to rebuild.

SCGF said the claim was processed through its partnership with Sun Insurance.
SCGF manager, lending and operations, Sagar Dayal said the payout, based on an insured sum of $30,000 less a $250 administration fee, would help the family begin rebuilding.
“The settlement provides much-needed financial assistance, enabling the family to begin rebuilding their home and restoring their lives,” Mr Dayal said.
“No amount of money can replace the memories and personal belongings lost in a house fire,” he added.
The SCGF House Insurance Scheme, offered in partnership with Sun Insurance, provides two levels of cover:
n$20,000 cover for an annual premium of $140.25.
n$30,000 cover for an annual premium of $168.75.
The policy covers fire, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and lightning. It also includes a $2000 death benefit if the insured dies within the insured premises and a $1000 funeral benefit after three consecutive years of continuous coverage.
SCGF chief executive officer Raj Sharma said the fund remained committed to supporting sugarcane growers through affordable financial and insurance products that strengthened the resilience of farming families.
