Parents need to be more responsible and vigilant with their children during this school break, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO), Livai Driu urges.
This is after a five-year-old girl from Naituvatuvatu Village, Wainibuka, Tailevu, was washed away by strong currents on Saturday.
The body was recovered yesterday morning.

The young girl was trying to cross the Waisomi River with seven other children and her 32-year-old aunt after returning from fetching edible lady fern (Ota) when she was swept away by the strong currents.
The matter was reported to police by the village headman. Three police officers were deployed to help in the search for the missing child.

He called on parents to take extra care with their children during the school holidays, urging them to spend more time with them and avoid attending gatherings and festivities during this period.
