Crimes against children ‘worrying’: COMPOL Tudravu

Police recorded 311 cases against children for the month of February to April this year. Of this number,46 per cent were sexual offences.
This was highlighted by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu yesterday.
He said 41 per cent were assaults, while the remainder were other offences.

Mr Tudravu said 28 per cent of the cases were committed by families and other relatives in domestic settings.

In other crime statistics, illicit drug cases recorded increase by 45 per cent. Mr Tudravu attributed this to the aggressive approach by the joint operations.
He said complaints against police dropped by 35 per cent. Mr Tudravu said overall crime for the reporting period decreased by 19 per cent, and serious crimes decreased by 14 per cent.
Mr Tudravu said crimes against women also fell by 11 per cent.
