A decision on files relating to 11 police officers is expected after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions completes a two-stage review process, including an independent assessment by an external consultant next month.

In May, the Fiji Police Force with the assistance of the Australian Federal Police and New Zealand Police completed investigation into alleged corrupt practices involving 11 senior members of the Fiji Police Force, following the circulation of screenshots of Viber exchanges.

The file was then sent to the ODPP for analysis and independent legal advice.

ODPP said it is expecting to complete its analysis of the files by the end of this month.

“The initial assessment is being conducted by a senior prosecutor and thereafter will be subjected to an independent review by a senior consultant engaged by the ODPP to provide a further review in July before a final decision is made.

“The outcome will be announced thereafter, and the analysis and recommendations will be forwarded to the Police.”

It is understood that the 11 police officers have been sent on leave as the investigation continue.
