DEAD….Saiasi Saidora

Nadi is in mourning after the sudden death of Saiasi Rasolea Saidora, a long-serving Denarau Marina driver, who died yesterday after being struck by a bus.

The 58-year-old, originally from Naivucini, Naitasiri, and with maternal links to Narewa Village, had spent most of his life in Narewa, where he was widely known and loved.

He leaves behind his wife and three children.

Relatives say the timing of his death, during Christmas week and days before the New Yea, has deepened their grief.

His cousin, Usaia Draunimasi, said the family was still struggling to come to terms with what has happened.

“We are still in shock now and couldn’t believe that this really happening, and happening at this season of Christmas and the coming New Year,” he said.

“It’s devastating to experience this tragedy at this time of the year.”

He described Mr Saidora as a hardworking man of strong character and a warm presence; someone who left a mark on everyone he met.

“He was outspoken yet approachable. He had remarkable ability to express his views clearly and respectfully, and his humour brought lightness to conversation,” he said.

“He valued relationships deeply and was intentional about building and maintaining meaningful connections.

"He worked with determination, integrity, and resilience, and believed in providing through honest effort.”

Above all, Mr Saidora was remembered as a man devoted to his family.

"He was a loving and faithful husband and a pillar of strength in his home. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, diligence, and genuine human connection," Mr Draunimasi said.

Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu said the incident occurred just after midday near the Namaka Public School traffic lights.

It is alleged that Mr Saidora suddenly stepped onto the road before being hit by a bus.

He was rushed to Nadi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr Bautolu confirmed that police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
