Multi-Ethnic Affairs Minister Charan Jeath Singh reminds newly appointed and returning councillors to focus on grassroots service delivery.

Do your job without fear and favour, the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs Charan Jeath Singh told 28 advisory councillors of Labasa and Wainikoro last Saturday.
Mr Singh addressed them at his ministry’s office in Labasa after some of their contracts were renewed recently after completing two years of service as an advisory councillor.
Some were appointed for the first time and Mr Singh advised them to purely serve the people.

“You and I are not here for any political gain,” Mr Singh said.
“We must serve the people, hear what their concerns are and get solutions.”
He told them to go out to their respective villages, settlements and districts and gather information.
While he reminded them that they were the eyes and ears of Government, he advised them of the importance of following the right channel of communication.
“As we are nearing cyclone season and festive period, I urge you to be prepared with information. If there is any concern or issue inform, please inform our office and we will then inform the respective responsible departments and organisation.”
Macuata Advisory Councillors chairperson Jitendra Kumar said people in Labasa and Wainikoro faced mobile telephone network connectivity issues, house termite infestation, water and road problems.
Mr Singh advised his ministry staff to take note of concerns and assured the councillors that the ministry would assist in addressing these issues and concerns.
