The electricity tariff structure, which was scheduled to come into effect on January 1, 2026, has been suspended to allow for a 21-day public consultation.
The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) confirmed the decision after receiving mixed public feedback and heightened interest in the proposed new rates.
“Taking these sentiments into consideration, the FCCC will now suspend the January 1, 2026 tariff authorisation and allow for a 21-day consultation,” the commission said in a media statement.

“All consumer groups — including domestic users, businesses, industries, government departments, political parties, social groups and youth representatives — are invited to make submissions to the FCCC,” it said.
The FCCC said it would publish a non-confidential version of Energy Fiji Limited’s submission dated May 2025 on its website, where a copy of the Electricity Tariff Methodology is also available.
“Every consumer and trader — and any concerned Fijian citizen — is invited to make submissions,” the commission said.
The FCCC had initially announced on December 19 that the new electricity tariff rates would take effect from January 1, 2026.
The commission said it would also be reaching out directly to stakeholders and that, in addition to an online survey, the public could make written submissions.
The FCCC reiterated that it operates independently and free from external influence, and that all regulatory decisions are based on evidence, due process and the long-term interests of consumers and the Fijian economy.
