Expect A Trough Of Low Pressure On New Year’s Day

Another trough of low pressure associated with cloud and rain is expected on New Year’s Day.

This was confirmed by the Nadi Weather forecaster, Shivneel Prasad on Sunday.

Mr Prasad said: “The Fiji group will experience a periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, northern and eastern parts and interior of Viti Levu.”

Furthermore Mr Prasad said heavy falls may lead to flooding. Motorists were urged to be cautious when driving through unfavorable conditions.

“Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas,” he said.

“Motorist can expect poor visibility and unfavourable driving conditions on roads, especially in areas of heavy falls."

"There is going to be moderate northeasterly winds, fresh at times and moderate to rough seas.

“On New Year’s Eve, the weather doesn’t look so bad but another trough is expected on Saturday.”
